Unit Descriptor 

This unit covers the competency required to audit weapons and range qualifications, to confirm the accuracy and safety of range instructions and to issue range qualifications within the level of authority in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Application of the Unit 

The application of this unit in the workplace - the environments, complexities and situations involved - will be written during Phase II of the Review of the PUA00 Public Safety Training Package.

This text will be useful for the purposes of job descriptions, recruitment advice or job analysis; where possible, it will not be too job specific to allow other industries to import it into other Training Packages, where feasible.

1.1 Areas to be audited are identified

1.2 Appropriate documentation  to be audited is selected and inspected to confirm currency and accuracy

1.3 Relevant reports are prepared and remedial action is recommended where appropriate

1.4 Audit recommendations are reviewed to ensure that action has been implemented

2. Manage range safety 

2.1 Safety traces are inspected and accuracy is confirmed and approved in accordance with standard procedures 

2.2 Safety instructions are reviewed to ensure compliance with standard procedures

2.3 Range practices are inspected to ensure compliance with standard procedures

3. Issue clearances to conduct range practices 

3.1 Ability of range conducting officers is confirmed

3.2 Authority to conduct relevant range practices is issued and recorded in accordance with standard procedures
